About the Presentation:
We will discuss the Natural Highs -Healthy Alternatives to Drugs & Alcohol Program, bring a taste of some Natural Highs experientials, and talk about fresh ideas to get young people interested in sober and healthy lifestyles.
Natural Highs - Healthy Alternatives to Drugs & Alcohol" is an interactive, holistic substance abuse prevention and intervention program that is currently offered at several high schools in Boulder and at Naropa University. In the program, students learn about cutting-edge brain chemistry, healthy alternatives to drugs & alcohol, body-mind practices, creative ritual, and healthy ways of accessing altered states of consciousness. The "Natural Highs" program includes workshops, a peer mentor program, a student leadership action team, and parent education.
About the Presenter:
Avani Dilger, MEd, MA, LPC, BC-DMT, CAC III, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Addiction Counselor Supervisor, a Somatic Psychotherapist and a Motivational Interviewing Trainer, who specializes in substance abuse prevention and treatment with adults, teens and their families. She has done extensive research, training and clinical practice in traditional and alternative approaches to substance abuse prevention and treatment. In addition to teaching the Natural Highs program at a variety of local high schools in Boulder, Avani teaches at Naropa University in the MA Somatic Counseling Program and works as a substance abuse counselor with teens, families and adults.

Tzuria Malpica has been part of the Natural Highs Leadership team at New Vista for the past two years. Along with a core group of New Vista students, Tzuria has helped to nurture and create a youth culture around the ideas and philosophies of Natural Highs. Through the Natural Highs program Tzuria discovered her passion and curiosity for herbs and is now studying to become an herbalist. |
